art class.

my newest adventure has been taking up painting. or maybe more like, committing to learn how to paint. every tuesday night for the next 4 weeks, you will find me painting my heart out in a small art studio tucked away off of riverside & whittset in Sherman Oaks.

i really like this class for a few reasons. of course the learning part. working hard toward the goal of painting something that looks right (or almost right). i also like it because the class is just for me. there is no agenda behind it, simply for me to experience something new. but the most interesting part of this class is my teacher! his name is eli and he is probably one of the kindest and most patient people i have ever interacted with. he encourages us students while still showing us what we can do to improve our art. and you should hear the playlist we listen to during class...probably the most random collection of music i've ever heard. it's all great. and i have no problem forking over money for the classes because i know i am getting my money's worth. and hey, i want to support him!

every moment that we borrow

i've started running again finally (yay!), it feels great to start my day by exercising (not so great to wake up early...ha). i recently made a new work out mix for inspiration. it's got some new songs that i love and some old ones that i haven't really listened to in a long time.

one of those old songs is 'gone' by switchfoot. i always forget about them, and when i hear one of their songs again, i remember that i really like their sound. as the song was ending, one of the verses caught my attention:

"She said he said live like no tomorrow
Every moment that we borrow
Brings us closer to the God who's not short of cash"

it was a good reminder that this life is fleeting and these moments aren't ours. they have been gifted to us and we should do our best to live lives of significance and service until we have no more moments left.

today is my little brother's golden birthday! he's 23 on the 23rd! yay!

at the front desk.

most of time i'm completely fine with not having my own office. really. i like when people walk by, i like that i interact with almost everyone on a daily basis. but sometimes i'd really like to shut the door to the rest of the world. i'm always on display at the reception desk, and i don't feel like i can show anything but a joyful smile. that can be hard. especially when remembering your awesome friend who died from cancer, way too young.
